Hostess with the Mostess

Part of owning a beautiful home is sharing it. When I help my clients design their spaces I like to keep entertaining in mind! Whether it is a soft space for girls night in, a great dining area for hosting a family holiday dinner or a fun outdoor space for a summer supper club. Creating a home that is inviting with spaces ready for entertaining is key!

When designing our new home having a great outdoor dining area was always kept in mind. Hugh and I love living in the low country and how many opportunities we have to be outdoors year round with the warmer weather. Our home has a large screened in porch which looks over a marsh area perfect for outdoor entertaining. We decided to create two outdoor spaces, one for relaxing and the other for hosting outdoor meals. I typically try to create entertainment spaces for my clients based on their individual wants and needs. Many of my clients love to maximize their outdoor space as well as we all know Charleston is known for exquisite porches!

I believe in having conversation pieces around the home such as a great piece of art or a unique light fixture that speaks to my client. Art can add a dynamic element to a otherwise neutral space. I also love the use of lighting as an art installation. My designs tend to lean towards livable, relaxed environments where guests feel right at home. A statement piece elevates the room and creates a fun talking point in an otherwise comfortable space.

Having areas of your home ready to go for that spontaneous get together is a must. I love the idea of a decorative tray set out with bottles of your favorite sparkling drink and your best glasses. Having a simple set up you can throw together makes entertaining a breeze and your guest will feel you went the extra mile.

You all know I love having palms around the house that make an island or table look finished. I found the best faux palms that I put in all my client homes and my own so that fresh cut look is always ready to go!

In my own home I also love having fresh cut flowers in pretty vases and greenery sprinkled around in different spaces. Something about florals just makes a house feel so inviting!

The low country is known for hosting generations of lavish get togethers. I love incorporating into my designs entertainment spaces where guest feel both at home and treated to a special occasion. I hope these tips are helpful, time to pop the bubbly!

Megan
