As Mother's Day approaches and I near the end of my pregnancy journey, what better time to share our baby girl's nursery. When Hugh and I found out we were pregnant we agreed if it was a boy he would have full rein of the nursery design and the same for me if it was a girl. As you all may expect ~ I was thrilled to find out she would be a girl! Cue all the blush! Designing this nursery was such a fun experience. I wanted to create a calming and comfortable space as we will all be spending a lot of time in here. I sourced items from my favorite vendors that are high quality and will grow with her. Having special touches throughout our home and especially in the nursery is so important to me!
When designing her nursery I wanted to make sure it is cozy and FUN while not being too "baby". I chose items she will cherish into her adulthood such as this amazing piece of art, Dreaming Chica by Windy O'Conner- sold on our shop! No- it's not your typical nursery art but it's something she will hopefully have forever. I want to start her collection early :) I love the soft grays, blues, and neutrals throughout this piece plus it has that little hint of black which is the base color of our entire home.
The art really served as the color palette. I decided to do a statement wall with this beautiful blush Drop It Modern wallpaper which compliments it well. I also added a Fanimation fan ~ these fans are throughout my entire home, I love them. Quality curtains are a must in a nursery- I went with a simple white blackout linen pair. Lastly, I decided on this fun yet neutral fauna rug. It is so soft, I even added a rug pad for extra cushion!
I LOVE how modern and chic this acrylic crib is! I added in pretty pink sheets and fluffy pillows for texture and color.
One of my favorite pieces in her room is this gorgeous Worlds Away Valentina Wooden Chest. Certain pieces should be investments to keep forever. A dresser will be useful long after the crib and glider are gone. This white lacquer chest with a waterfall edge and gold pulls is sleek and sophisticated. I am doubling this chest as a changing table to maximize space in the room.
I am obsessed with the Formosa Lamp in blush by Bungalow 5. It adds the perfect glow for bedtime routine and late night changing sessions. The blush color compliments the tones of the wallpaper. To me the difference with this lamp and others you see on the market are the little details like the acrylic finial and base~ those little quality touches make all the difference.
Function is always the most important thing to me- both in my personal home and for clients. I believe that function and beauty can coexist in well designed spaces and that was no different here, especially with it being a nursery that will soon be full of spit up, dirty diapers and sticky fingers! We decided to do a closet update and add shelving to hold art, toys, blankets, books and all her special things.
A closer look~
Another important corner where I am sure we will be spending a lot of time holds the Paxton Swivel Glider & Recliner. I love how high the back is for extra support. We went with a white performance fabric for easy clean up and durability. Paired with this sweet pink lumbar pillow and Tiel Duncan print for my pops of pink.
The Hedron Side Table in brass by Bungalow 5 was my pop of fun! I wanted to tie into the brass rods and hardware on the dresser. This piece will also be very functional because it will be my place holder for bottles and phone at night. It's such a unique piece and I love what a statement it is next to the simple white glider. Every room deserves a statement piece and this is like a little work of art.
I also added my favorite pampas grass in a woven brown vase for some extra texture.
It's all in the details ~ I added a simple floor lamp for easy access to extra lighting at night. The brass base and white ceramic cup perfectly pair with the side table and glider. I had to incorporate my favorite floating acrylic shelves I put in every nursery design. These shelves display special items such as art, vases and pictures. For stuffed animals, toys and items we will be grabbing quickly, I decided to use our woven seagrass storage baskets from the shop. I love having a lid to conceal these items when they are not being used. Lastly, I fell in love with this geometric baby mobile ~it is whimsical yet modern.
I hope you love our baby girls nursery as much as we do! I sit in this room often and just stare at it. It's definitely my favorite room in the house. It's so perfect and our baby girl will make it even more complete.
xx,
Megan
