This year I had the privilege of participating in the designer influencer tour during High Point Market, which included a guided tour through multiple showrooms. Experiencing this among several other talented designers gave me a whole new perspective and allowed for continuous learning about the well-known brands.

I wanted to speak more in-depth about my experience at my favorite showroom during the tour: Jaipur Living. This guided tour, led by their creative director, gave me a better understanding of the creative process that goes into each handmade rug as well as the story behind each piece.

If you have been following my designs for a while - you would know that I love incorporating memorable handmade rugs into a client's home. Jaipur has become one of my most trusted vendors when sourcing the perfect rug. I have included in this blog the most important factors to keep in mind when making a rug selection:
First is the mood of the room. Typically, I choose a rug that will either play along nicely with the existing palette or take on a more subdued and neutral role. Depending on the space and function, I am known to pick a rug that stands out and is a showstopper.
Second is functionality. Many of my clients have kids and pets and require a rug that will not only look beautiful in their space, but also withstand wear, tear, and heavy traffic. Jaipur provides rugs that are durable and performance-rated. I was able to hear from the creative director the best methods for cleaning a rug and several techniques to make it last longer. It is as simple as some soap, water, and a little bit of elbow grease to get even the toughest stains out. Nothing makes me more excited than hearing that we can provide our clients with beautiful rugs that are made to last and to be functional for everyday life.
Lastly, I consider the texture. To me, a rug should not only be eye-catching but also provide a comfortable texture that gently guides you through a space. Jaipur has some of the most unique new rugs that are inspired by their designer's travels around the world. I noticed lots of deep and rich colors, but with patterns that are contemporary and bring a fun edge to any room.
Hearing from the creative director about their source of inspiration for each collection was stimulating and I was even able to gain some insight into upcoming trends. The Jaipur showroom tour provided so much valuable information regarding the sourcing of quality materials as well as technique variation. Jaipur specializes in hand-knotted, hand-tufted, and hand-woven rugs which effortlessly tie a room together.
